Pointe Basics

Pointe Standards
Students will be placed in point classes when they are not only of age (generally 10-13 years old), but have also acquired the skills necessary for the correct execution of pointe work.

The student must be taking a minimum of 2 regular classes a week consistently. Pointe students must attend their assigned pointe classes in addition to the minimum two regular classes each week. Pointe students are encouraged to attend lower level classes on pointe for strengthening purposes.

At this level students are particularly encouraged to attend as many classes as possible, rather than the minimum.

It is to be noted that not all feet are suitable for pointe work due to varying anatomical structure, etc. Students and parents are encouraged not to use pointe work as the sole measure of a dancer’s progress or success.
